East Coast artist Rosemary Castiglioni forms her work around a process she describes as "tactile looking," one in which she marks, blotches, and smudges the page in response to working from models. "The presence of the models seems to excite an energy that is missing in inanimate objects. Just visually scanning relationships of human form opens possibilities for creative exploration," Castiglioni writes.

Rosemary Castiglioni works on Mylar sheets, a substance that has translucent and softening qualities; when combined with her subtle color palette, the overall effect is a soft, personal presence imbued with a natural and kinetic energy. Her sophisticated visual language is based upon the human body, and through her gestural strokes Castiglioni creates a highly-developed form of abstract figuration.

Rosemary Castiglioni has exhibited widely throughout the East Coast for over 10 years, and was awarded an artist residency in 2004. After earning her BFA in Drawing and Painting from Rowan University in New Jersey, Castiglioni continued to earn an MFA in Studio Drawing and Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where she lives and works today.
