The eclectic mixed media assemblages of California artist Peter Foley embody the experience of humanity's psychic evolution. Found objects attain the sacred status of Shamanistic relics in the hands of Foley, who, acting as a visual archeologist, chronicles the passage of mankind, and celebrates the innate beauty of our primal journey.

"His picture plane resembles the haphazard wall of an artist's studio, yellowed from years of exposure to tobacco and sunlight, and crammed with pieces of maps, postcards, the artist's own quick sketches, paint splatters and found pieces of wood," writes Berin Golonu, as published in Artweek.

Peter Foley has exhibited throughout the West Coast for over three decades, including multiple group shows with the Bill Lowe Gallery. Foley earned an M.F.A. from San Francisco State University and a B.F.A. from California College of Arts and Crafts. His work is included in the permanent collections of the National Museum de Arte y Diseno Contemporaneo in San Jose, Costa Rica, as well as the Oakland Museum of Art and the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California.
