The hallucinogenic imagery of Southern painter Michael Beauchemin presents an overlay of the subconscious mind and perceived reality in dazzlingly vivid color. Each painting is a visualization of the mental process wherein a past experience, person or place is recollected and gradually forms into the present moment; in essence, each painting takes the viewer on a roller-coaster ride through time and space.

"My objective as an artist is to study, in visual terms, the systematic attempt to recall past experiences by cross-indexing mental pictures to approximate the past event, person or thing. I present my subjects from several angles and/or timeframes simultaneously to recreate the visual dynamics experienced during the process of retrieving stored observations... The goal is to think emotionally rather than logically; to consider the irrational side of the soul," Beauchemin explains.

Beauchemin has exhibited throughtout the southern United States since the late 1980s, including a number of group shows held at the Bill Lowe Gallery. He received his formal artistic training from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, and has been featured in a number of art journals such as Art in America and The Open Studio Press.
