Sonmor creates each canvas with such skilled precision that even the smallest of works are infused with a great sense of depth, warmth, and texture. Typically placed within a neutral-toned setting, bunches of grapes or clusters of flowers in lavish reds and oranges seem real enough to taste or touch. Sonmor is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, and his work is included in several permanent public collections, such as the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and the White Mountain Art Academy in Ontario.

Canadian painter Kevin Sonmor has been widely celebrated throughout his own country for the past 20 years, and more recently in the United States due to his exhibitions with the Bill Lowe Gallery. Sonmor’s accomplished painterly technique and suggestive imagery mesh to create dense, brooding scenes evocative of art historical traditions such as Flemish still-life painting and Romantic landscapes.
