Figurative painter Jim Sajovic explores the psycho-sexual, cultural and historical manifestations of the nude form as an archetypal symbol of the self, psychological states of being, and the human condition. By placing each figure within a vibrant, almost hallucinogenic field of saturated color, the human form vibrates between manifestation and obscurity.

“The omnipresence of the figural form in Sajovic’s art suggests the implicit awareness of the body as an entity which informs human experience. These are tragic, vulnerable, idealized, and erotic bodies. Sajovic’s paintings share certain characteristics, chief among them the quest for understanding of the human condition, fusions of the ancient past and immediate present, and the invention of multiple, complex layers of technique increasingly mediated by computer innovation,” writes Leesa Fanning, art critic.

The work of Jim Sajovic has been exhibited worldwide for over 20 years, including four solo exhibitions in Venice, Italy. He is the recipient of several awards and grants, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and his work is included in public and private collections worldwide.
