Critically-acclaimed conceptual artist Babs Reingold’s work explores themes of texture, material, surface, and the biography beneath the surface, by using materials such as silk, threads, encaustic, rust, and human hair. She has exhibited extensively for the past 20 years in the New York area, and is the recipient of two awards from Whitney Museum curator Barbara Haskell.

Her 2002 exhibit “Intimate Apparel” at the Bill Lowe Gallery in Atlanta marked a high point in her career, and featured installations comprised of stained paintings and assemblages, each with their own complex layering of materials and concept. “Layers, and the illusion of layers, are integral to surface, for illusion is always the life beneath the surface,” Reingold explains. Her work truly clarifies a mystical experience, and expertly captures it through her intricate formal vocabulary.
