Markus Lupertz—Painter and Sculptor
Born in 1941, Markus Lupertz has a unique style on canvas that includes motifs of helmets and officer’s caps. He attended the School of Applied Arts in Krefeld, and the State Art Academy in Duesseldorf from 1956 to 1961. After graduating, Lupertz became a professor in 1976 at the State Academy of Visual Arts in Karlsruhe. By 1986, Markus Lupertz was appointed the Director of the Duesseldorf Academy. His work includes expressive still-life creations and, although some consider his work a little on the grotesque side, his pieces still offer a nice range of historical figures. Most observers see Lupertz’ work as being statuesque, similar to Rome and German type sculptures. To learn more about Markus Lupertz, visit his online gallery at LoweGallery.com.
