Gary Komarin: Artists, Teacher and More
Gary Komarin was born in 1951 to a Czech architect and a mother who fled her Austrian homeland during the Holocaust. Komarin currently lives and works in his birthplace, New York City. Not only does he paint and create memorable works such as “Garner Tullis” and “Tandem Press,” but he also teaches and lectures at numerous prestigious institutions throughout the United States. Gary Komarin has received many awards and appeared in several leading publications, such as the New York Times. A student of abstract expressionist artist Philip Guston, Gary Komarin uses quick-drying techniques—coupled with scratching and on-canvas blending—to give his work a sense of romantic urgency. Komarin prefers to work with wigs and vessels as motifs and often draws on various influences from his everyday life experiences.
