Don Von Vleit, American Legend

Don Von Vleit led the incredibly popular Magic Band under his persona Captain Beefheart. His vocals seemed to be an aural representation of the majestic swirls and thrilling energy of his paintings. By 1972, impressive Don Von Vleit had gained notoriety as a painter and had his first gallery showing.

From the beginning of his professional painting career, the work of Don Von Vleit has stood out against other painters. Although briefly unappreciated, the paintings were soon understood to be masterpieces. Over time the subtle complexity of the pieces made by Don Von Vleit became legendary.
