David Shapiro – Simplicity and Inter-Connectedness

David Shapiro is an American-born artist from Brooklyn. Like most modern-day American artists, David Shapiro burst onto the art scene with a new style that was simple yet still able to deliver powerful messages and insights into the way he looked at and perceived the world.

The majority of the works by David Shapiro consist of simple patterns, colors and designs. David Shapiro rarely, if ever, moves out of his simple and comfortable style when it comes to colors and designs. However, despite the simplicity, the symbols and colors that make up the works of David Shapiro are still unique and extremely personal in their meanings.

In most of his works, innovative David Shapiro attempts to create a sense of contemplation, seeking to allow the viewer to determine the meaning of the work himself, rather than to make it obvious or apparent. David Shapiro uses a great deal of shapes in his paintings, including the ever-present spirals, dots, knot patterns, and other stylized designs. The work of David Shapiro is also characterized by the surface upon which he creates his art. Often, a work by David Shapiro will be done on burlap, nylon screens, Japanese papers and even good old-fashioned canvas.

For the most part, works of art by David Shapiro are intended to represent interstellar bodies and constellations, as well as human thoughts and emotions. Essentially, David Shapiro has made it a priority in his work to represent that which is not easily seen by human eyes, yet can be easily felt by the human heart.
