Dale Chihuly: Art glass and Much More
Dale Chihuly, a University of Puget Sound graduate, is often acclaimed as having revolutionized the Studio Glass movement through his collaborative, division-of-labor approach. An incredibly prolific artist, Chihuly studied interior design and architecture in the early 1960s and, by 1965, had become intrigued by the process of glassblowing. Today, his studios have become a paradise for budding artists, collectors, and museum professionals. Dave Chihuly is best known for his multipart-blown compositions, ranging from simpler tabletop art to large, serialized forms. His work is marked with a sense of autobiography, as he draws on personal emotions and inspirations while creating his art. Since the early 1980s, Chihuly has used intense, vibrant colors coupled with subtle linear decoration to create his patterns. A leading figure in the art world, he has provoked considerable growth in this particular art medium.
