Historic Landscape and Contemporary Abstract – Kevin Sonmor Part 1

The artwork of Kevin Sonmor reflects the abstract landscape of environments filled with rich, yet ambiguous spaces with small still life objects of fabric, flowers and grapes. A student inspired by Flemish painting, his visions are dark and familiar.

Born in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada in 1959, Kevin Sonmor received his MFA from Concordia University in Montreal. His artwork has been widely exhibited across Canada and the U.S. in solo as well as group exhibitions.

In 2002, the Mendel Art Gallery in Canada organized a traveling exhibition of work titled The Landscape Perilous: Kevin Sonmor Paintings 1998-2002 with catalogue featuring essays by art critic, Mark Daniel Cohen.
